Flat monthly rate. No percentage of your billings. Ever.
One plan, one price, everything included. The only choices are how you want to pay and whether your practice has five or more physicians.
Early Bird
$199/month

$279/month
$3,181/year (~$265/month, save 5%)

Running a practice with five or more physicians?
One account, one invoice, every physician on the platform. The practice tier gives you 10% off the standard per-physician rate, with annual billing adding a further 5% for a total of up to 15% off list price.
| Per physician, monthly | Per physician, annually | |
|---|---|---|
| Practice tier (5+ physicians) | $251.1/month (10% off) | $2,863/year (~$239/month, ~15% off) |
Every physician on the practice account gets the full platform: their own dashboard, their own rules engine and advice engine, their own claims data. The practice administrator manages seats and receives a single consolidated invoice, but does not have access to individual physician billing data or claim details. Your billing performance is your own.
Physicians can be added at any time, prorated to your billing cycle. If a physician leaves, they're removed at the end of the current calendar month. If the practice drops below five physicians, each remaining subscription reverts to the standard individual rate.
Plus 5% GST. Same features, same support, same continuous updates as individual subscriptions.
One plan. Everything included. Every update, forever.
There's no "pro" tier, no feature gating, and no upsell. Every physician on Meritum gets the full platform from day one, and every improvement made to the platform is included in your subscription automatically.
- AHCIP fee-for-service claims and WCB Alberta claims with full support for both billing streams, regardless of your EMR or system configuration.
- PCPCM panel tracking and payment reconciliation handled as a separate billing stream from fee-for-service, with its own enrolment tracking and reconciliation workflow.
- Pre-submission rules engine that checks every claim against applicable AHCIP governing rules before it goes out: modifier eligibility, time-period requirements, duplicate detection, age-based benefits, and RRNP premiums.
- Advice engine that identifies codes and modifiers you may have missed and analyses your billing patterns to surface revenue recovery opportunities across your claim history.
- Real-time claim tracking and rejection analytics so you see what's paid, what's held, and what's refused, with reason codes in plain language.
- Mobile claim entry for ED shifts, after-hours work, and anywhere else you need to log a claim at the point of care.
- EMR encounter imports through system file exports from supported EMRs, so you're not re-entering what you've already documented.
- Automated Thursday submission via H-Link on Alberta Health's weekly cycle, with no manual batching required.
- RRNP auto-calculation from your practice location and specialty, applied automatically to every eligible claim.
- Full data export at any time at no charge. Your billing data is yours, and it leaves with you if you decide to go.
- Email support with a one-business-day response commitment and a help centre built around Alberta-specific billing guidance.
- HIA-compliant Canadian hosting on DigitalOcean Toronto, with an Information Manager Agreement under HIA s.66.
- Every future platform update included at no additional cost. When AHCIP governing rules change, Meritum's rules engine updates automatically. When new features ship, they're available to every physician on the platform. Your subscription covers the platform as it is today and everything it becomes.
How Meritum Compares
Meritum vs. a Billing Agent
Cost
Billing Agent
3--5% of annual billings. On $400K, that's $12,000--$20,000/year.
Meritum
$279/month standard ($3,348/year) or $265/month annual ($3,181/year). Same price whether you bill $200K or $2M.
Pricing model
Billing Agent
Percentage-based. The more you earn, the more you pay.
Meritum
Flat rate. Your billings go up, your cost stays the same.
Revenue visibility
Billing Agent
Often a monthly summary or PDF. Rejection details may require follow-up.
Meritum
Real-time dashboard with claim status, rejection patterns, and assessment results.
Rules checking
Billing Agent
Depends on the agent's knowledge. Errors caught after assessment, if at all.
Meritum
Automated pre-submission validation against every applicable governing rule, on every claim.
Billing optimisation
Billing Agent
Depends on the agent proactively reviewing your billing patterns. Many don't.
Meritum
Advice engine identifies missed codes and modifiers and analyses billing patterns for revenue recovery opportunities.
Submission timing
Billing Agent
On the agent's schedule. Claims may batch up during busy periods or leave.
Meritum
Automated Thursday cycle via H-Link. Claims go out on schedule regardless.
WCB billing
Billing Agent
Often separate or at additional cost. Some agents don't handle WCB.
Meritum
Included. AHCIP and WCB in the same platform, for every physician.
PCPCM
Billing Agent
Varies. Not all agents handle panel-based payment tracking and reconciliation.
Meritum
PCPCM panel tracking and payment reconciliation included as a separate billing stream.
Your data
Billing Agent
Lives in the agent's system. Leaving often means starting from scratch.
Meritum
Full export at any time, at no charge.
Continuity risk
Billing Agent
If your billing person retires, gets sick, or leaves, your revenue operations are disrupted.
Meritum
The rules are encoded in the platform. No single point of failure.
Data residency
Billing Agent
Varies. Not all agents can confirm where patient data is stored.
Meritum
DigitalOcean Toronto. HIA-compliant. IMA under s.66.
Updates
Billing Agent
Depends on the agent staying current with rule changes. You may not know if they haven't.
Meritum
Platform updates automatically when governing rules change. Every physician benefits immediately.
Meritum vs. Existing Self-Serve Software
Pre-submission rules checking
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Limited or absent. Most tools submit what you enter without validating against governing rules.
Meritum
Every claim checked against every applicable AHCIP governing rule before submission.
Billing optimisation
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Not available. You're responsible for knowing which codes and modifiers apply.
Meritum
Advice engine flags missed codes and modifiers and analyses billing patterns for recovery opportunities.
RRNP calculation
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Usually requires manual configuration. Miss the setup and eligible premiums don't get applied.
Meritum
Auto-calculated from your practice location and specialty on every eligible claim.
After-hours modifiers
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Typically manual. You select the modifier and hope you chose the right time-period rate.
Meritum
Calculated automatically from your documented start and end times.
WCB billing
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Inconsistent. Some EMR-based tools have WCB modules that don't work for all physicians.
Meritum
AHCIP and WCB billing both work for every physician, regardless of EMR.
PCPCM
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Rarely integrated. Panel tracking and reconciliation are typically manual or absent.
Meritum
Panel enrolment tracking and payment reconciliation built in as a separate billing stream.
Rejection analytics
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Basic or absent. You see the refusal code; understanding patterns is on you.
Meritum
Rejection patterns analysed across your claim history, with reason codes in plain language.
Rule updates
Existing Self-Serve Tools
You may need to wait for software updates from the vendor, which may lag behind AHCIP changes.
Meritum
Rules engine updates when governing rules change. Included in your subscription.
Alberta-specific depth
Existing Self-Serve Tools
Most tools serve multiple provinces or countries. Alberta-specific features are often bolted on, not native.
Meritum
Built from the ground up for Alberta billing. AHCIP, WCB, RRNP, PCPCM, Thursday cycle, SOMB rules.
The Math
A rural GP billing $400,000 annually
A specialist billing $800,000 annually
The flat rate means the savings grow with your billings. A billing agent's percentage fee scales with your revenue; Meritum's subscription stays the same. And beyond the cost comparison, the rules engine and advice engine are catching errors and identifying missed revenue that the billing agent comparison doesn't even account for.
Know a colleague who's overpaying?
Refer a physician who signs up for Meritum, and you'll receive one month's subscription free once they complete their first billing cycle. You can refer up to three physicians per year, and each successful referral earns you another month at no charge.
Pricing FAQ
Why isn't there a free trial?
Medical billing isn't something you trial; it's something you commit to. Setting up Meritum means configuring your practitioner profile, connecting your rules engine, and submitting real claims to Alberta Health. That's onboarding, not a test drive. We charge from day one because the platform is built to be worth the cost from the first Thursday cycle, and the pricing is structured to make that commitment straightforward.
What happens after my early bird rate expires?
Your early bird rate of $199/month is locked for 12 months from signup. After that, your subscription renews at the standard rate: $279/month or $3,181/year. You'll get advance notice before the rate change, and you can cancel at any time.
Is there a contract or commitment?
No contract and no minimum term on monthly billing; you can cancel at the end of any month. Annual billing comes with a lower effective rate, and in exchange we ask for a six-month commitment: cancellations within the first six months forfeit the remaining balance, while cancellations after six months receive a prorated refund for unused months. Either way, your full billing data is exported at no charge when you leave.
Does the price go up if I bill more?
It does not. Meritum is a flat rate regardless of your billing volume. Whether you're billing $200,000 or $2,000,000 annually, your subscription cost is the same. This is the fundamental difference from the billing agent model: their fee scales with your revenue, while ours stays fixed.
Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?
Yes, at any renewal date. If you start on monthly and decide to move to annual, the change takes effect at the start of your next billing period. The annual plan saves you 5% compared to monthly billing.
Is this per physician or per clinic?
Per physician. Each subscription covers one practitioner with their own claims, rules engine, advice engine, and dashboard. This keeps your billing data separate and your compliance clean under the Health Information Act. If you're a practice with five or more physicians, the practice tier gives you 10% off the standard per-physician rate, with a further 5% for annual billing.
How does the referral program work?
Refer a colleague who signs up and completes their first billing cycle, and you receive one month's subscription credited to your next invoice. You can earn up to three referral credits per year, applied one per billing period. Referrals must be physicians outside your own practice account. If you're on a practice tier, you choose whether the credit applies to your practice's invoice or is banked against a future individual subscription in your name.
Do I get future updates and features?
Every platform update, feature addition, and governing rule change is included in your subscription at no additional cost. When AHCIP rules are updated (including the annual April 1 fee schedule change), Meritum's rules engine reflects the changes automatically. You don't need to request updates or pay for a new version; the platform you're using today gets better over time, and your subscription covers all of it.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment is handled through Stripe in Canadian dollars. Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are accepted. All prices are in CAD with 5% GST applied at checkout.
The math is simple. The decision should be too.
Everything included, cancel anytime, and your data is always yours.
